Friendships - Ride or Dies - Week 2
Friendship - Ride or Dies - Week 2
1) Godward in direction.
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Hebrews 10:24
1 And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1
Unhealthy: Prodigal in direction.
2) Loyal like Ruth.
16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Ruth 1:16
Unhealthy: Rivals disguised as friends.
3) Truthful like Nathan.
1 So the LORD sent Nathan the prophet to tell David this story: “There were two men in a certain town. One was rich, and one was poor. 2 The rich man owned a great many sheep and cattle. 3 The poor man owned nothing but one little lamb he had bought. He raised that little lamb, and it grew up with his children. 2 Samuel 12:1-9
It ate from the man’s own plate and drank from his cup. He cuddled it in his arms like a baby daughter. 4 One day a guest arrived at the home of the rich man. But instead of killing an animal from his own flock or herd, he took the poor man’s lamb and killed it and prepared it for his guest.” 2 Samuel 12:1-9
5 David was furious. “As surely as the LORD lives,” he vowed, “any man who would do such a thing deserves to die! 6 He must repay four lambs to the poor man for the one he stole and for having no pity.”
7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are that man! The LORD, the God of Israel, says: I anointed you king of Israel and saved you from the power of Saul. 2 Samuel 12:1-9
8 I gave you your master’s house and his wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. And if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more. 9 Why, then, have you despised the word of the LORD and done this horrible deed? For you have murdered Uriah the Hittite with the sword of the Ammonites and stolen his wife. 2 Samuel 12:1-9
Unhealthy: A soothsaying deceiver like Satan.
14 They offer superficial treatments
for my people’s mortal wound.
They give assurances of peace
when there is no peace. Jeremiah 6:14
5 Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning.
6 You live in the midst of deception;
in their deceit they refuse to acknowledge me,” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 9:5-6 (NIV)
4) Sacrificial like Jesus.
13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8
Unhealthy: Takers.
1) Friendly with many,
friends with few.
24 There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.Proverbs 18:24
Jesus→ Church→ You
2) Be intentional about developing Godly friendships
