Friendships - Week 1
12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. 13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
John 15:12-13
1) Call (v.12a) - “Love one another.”
2) Example (v.12b) - “as I have loved you.”
3) Description (v.13) - “Greater love has no one than if he lay down his life..”
4) Relationship (v.13b) - “friends”
“You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
John 15:14-15
We have a God made
need for relationships.
18 Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”

Humanity over values
relationship with people over relationship with God.
Before God called them to befriend and love each other, they first had been befriended and loved by Jesus.
Jesus calls his disciples friend.
John 15:14-15
1) Friendship with Jesus elevates you.
2) Friendship with Jesus enlarges your friendships.
3) Jesus is a sacrificing friend.
4) Friendship with Jesus makes you spiritually perceptive.
5) Friendship with Jesus makes you spiritually productive.
6) Friendship with Jesus will divide you from the world.
Having friendship with Jesus
changes everything.
33 Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.”

The World’s Hatred 18 “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. 19 The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.
John 15:17-21
20 Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you. 21 They will do all this to you because of me, for they have rejected the one who sent me.
