Pray Bold Prayers
Sermon Notes
Bold faith prays bold prayers.
"...anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
Prayer is what faith sounds like.
Verse 8 (God's promise)
Verse 12 (Joshua's prayer)
Verse 14 (God's response)
GOD INVITES US TO ASK BOLDLY
FAITH ALIGNS WITH GOD'S MISSION
Bold prayer is not getting God to join our mission.
Bold prayer is joining God's mission and asking boldly for what is needed.
- Does this prayer align with God's heart?
- Does it advance His purposes?
GOD IS NOT LIMITED BY NATURAL LAWS
Our limitations are not God's limitations.
BOLD PRAYERS POSITION US TO SEE GOD MOVE
Sometimes we want God-sized miracles while we're standing still.
What step of obedience have you been avoiding while waiting for God to act?
Pray Bold Prayers
3-Day Devotional & Small Group Guide
Big Idea: Big confidence in God leads to bold, God-sized prayers.
Sticky Bottom Line: Bold faith prays bold prayers.
DAY 1: FAITH COMES TO GOD
Read - Hebrews 11:6
,
"Anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
Devotional - Faith is more than believing facts about God. Faith moves us toward Him. Prayer is one of the clearest ways we show our faith. When we pray, we admit that we need God. We believe He hears us, loves us, and is able to help us. Joshua believed God had already promised victory. Because he trusted God's promise, he prayed a bold prayer.
What does your prayer life say about your faith? God invites you to come to Him today with confidence.
Think About It - What is one area of your life where you need to trust God more?
Prayer - God, help me trust You enough to bring everything to You in prayer. Grow my faith so I will depend on You every day.
DAY 2: GOD IS ABLE
Devotional - The miracle in Joshua 10 reminds us that nothing is too hard for God. God created the world, so He is not limited by it. Sometimes we stop praying because we think a situation is hopeless. We decide someone will never change, a relationship will never heal, or a problem will never be solved. But our limits are not God's limits. God may not answer every prayer the way we expect, but He is always able to do more than we can imagine.
Keep praying.
Keep trusting.
Keep believing.
Think About It - What situation have you started believing is impossible?
Prayer - God, remind me that You are bigger than every problem I face. Help me trust Your power instead of my fears.
DAY 3: KEEP MOVING IN FAITH
Devotional - Joshua didn't ask God for a miracle while sitting on the sidelines.
He had already obeyed.
He marched all night.
He entered the battle.
Then he prayed boldly.
Sometimes we wait for God to move before we obey. Joshua shows us that faith often obeys first and trusts God with the results. What step of obedience is God asking you to take? Don't wait until everything makes sense. Move forward in faith.
Think About It - What is one step of obedience you can take this week?
Prayer - God, give me courage to obey You even when I cannot see the outcome. Help me trust You with every step.
SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS
Ice Breaker - If you could ask God for one miracle today, what would it be?
- The sermon said, "Prayer is what faith sounds like." What do you think that means?
- Joshua prayed a bold prayer because God had already promised to be with him. Why is it important to know God's character and His promises before we pray?
- Have you ever stopped praying for something because you thought it was impossible? What happened?
- Joshua marched all night before asking God to stop the sun. How can obedience and prayer work together in our own lives?
- This week's challenge is to begin praying again for something you have almost given up on. What is one bold prayer you want to commit to praying this week? Close your group by praying for each person's bold prayer request.
