Open Handed - Week 2
Matthew 6:25-34, 1 Timothy 6:6-10
“Who owns the house?”
God owns everything. (Psalm 24:1-2)
We own nothing—we steward everything.
Anxiety and greed are both about trust.
Anxiety says: “I don’t know if I’ll have enough.”
Greed says: “What I have isn’t enough.”
Jesus says: “Your Father knows what you need.”
We don’t have to grasp for what our Father already holds, and we don’t have to chase what He hasn’t promised.
1. What We Chase Reveals What We Believe
- Matthew 6:31–32
- 1 Timothy 6:9
2. Anxiety: Grasping for What the Father Already Holds
- Matthew 6:25–32
- Anxiety is often rooted in grasping for what your Father has already taken responsibility for.
3. Greed: Reaching Beyond What the Father Has Given
1 Timothy 6:6–10
Greed is reaching for what the Father has not promised.
- Anxiety doubts God’s provision
- Greed rejects God’s sufficiency
4. The Reordering: Seek the Father (Kingdom), Trust His Provision
- Matthew 6:33
- 1 Timothy 6:6–8
Contentment is trusting that what the Father has given is enough for obedience today.
5. Living Free: From Control to Trust
- Matthew 6:34
You don’t have to grasp for what the Father holds, and you don’t have to chase what the Father hasn’t promised.

Think about it: God sees your needs. He feeds birds and clothes flowers. He cares even more about you.
Truth: God is your Father, and He knows what you need.
Ask yourself: What am I worried about today?
Prayer: “God, You know what I need. Help me trust You today.”
Day 2: Be Content with What You Have
Read: 1 Timothy 6:6–8
Think about it: Paul says contentment is great gain. We don’t need more to have peace—we need God.
Truth: What God has given you is enough for today.
Ask yourself: Where do I feel like I need more?
Prayer: “God, thank You for what I have. Help me be content.”
Day 3: Seek God First
Read: Matthew 6:33–34
Think about it: When we put God first, He takes care of what we need.
Truth: You don’t have to carry tomorrow—God already holds it.
Ask yourself: What would it look like to put God first today?
Prayer: “God, I choose to seek You first. I trust You with my future.”
