Resurgence - Week 3
Equipping believers to discover their calling and live it out together.
1. Engagement — Moving the inactive to the frontline
2. Community — Moving the isolated into community life
3. Spirit-Filled Courage — Moving those who walk in fear into a life of courage
1) Burn the ships
Philippians 3:13a — “...forgetting what lies behind...”
2) Embrace the pains of progress
Philippians 3:13b — “...straining forward to what lies ahead...”
3) Keep your eyes on the target
Philippians 3:14 — “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus...”
The Remedy: Keep Engaging
Galatians 6:9 - “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Small Group Discussion Questions (5)
1. When have you started something with big ambition but got discouraged because change was slower than expected? What did you do next?
2. What does it look like practically for you to “forget what lies behind”? What are you most tempted to go back to—habits, mindsets, comfort, old identities?
3. Where do you feel the “strain” right now in your walk with Jesus—spiritually, relationally, emotionally, or in obedience?
4. What is one “ship” you may need to burn—one escape route, compromise, or fallback plan that keeps you from fully following Jesus?
5. Which of the three vision movements do you most need right now: Engagement, Community, or Spirit-Filled Courage? Why?
3-Day Devotional: Pray Hard and Press On
Day 1 — Burn the Ships
Scripture: Philippians 3:13a
Reflection: Spiritual progress often stalls when we keep an exit open. The old life stays powerful when it stays available. Burning the ships isn’t about shame—it’s about clarity. You’re deciding: I’m not going back. Jesus is worth full surrender.
Prompt: What “ship” have you kept in the water as a backup plan?
Prayer: Jesus, help me let go of what’s behind me. Give me courage to cut off what keeps pulling me back. I choose You fully. Amen.
Action Step (small): Write down one concrete boundary you will set this week (a conversation, a habit change, an accountability step, an app deletion, a schedule shift, etc.).
Day 2 — Embrace the Strain
Scripture: Philippians 3:13b
Reflection: Straining isn’t failure—it’s movement. If you feel stretched, that may be proof you’re growing. You don’t measure transformation only by what you see today, but by what you keep choosing daily.
Prompt: Where is obedience feeling hard right now—and what might God be forming in you through it?
Prayer: Father, strengthen me in the stretch. Help me not interpret resistance as rejection. Grow perseverance in me. Amen.
Action Step (small): Do one “quiet obedience” today that no one applauds: forgive, confess, serve, reach out, read, pray, show up.
Day 3 — Keep Your Eyes on the Prize
Scripture: Philippians 3:14 + Galatians 6:9
Reflection: Weariness comes when we lose sight of the goal. Paul doesn’t deny hardship—he simply refuses to let it decide the outcome. Due season is real. Reaping is promised to those who don’t quit.
Prompt: What’s one area where you’ve been tempted to give up? What would “press on” look like for the next 7 days—not forever, just one week?
Prayer: God, lift my eyes to the target again. Give me fresh hope and steady faith. Teach me to pray hard and press on. Amen.
Action Step (small): Text someone today: “I’m pressing on—can you pray for me?” And ask how you can pray for them.
