Watch Your Mouth - Week 4
“Words That Witness” – Speaking as Kingdom People
WEEK 1: “Tongue on Fire” – Taming the Tongue (James 3:1–12)
We learned that the tongue reveals the heart — our words are spiritual thermometers.
We confessed that no one can tame it by human strength; only the Holy Spirit can transform what we say.
We practiced surrendering our words each morning with a simple prayer:
WEEK 2: “Speak Life” – Words That Build, Not Break (Proverbs 18:21, Ephesians 4:29)
We saw that encouragement plants seeds that grow in others.
We understood that speaking life takes intention — it’s a spiritual discipline.
We practiced sharing one intentional word of encouragement every day.
WEEK 3: “Kill the Gossip” – Silencing Slander and Whispering (Proverbs 16:28, 1 Timothy 5:13)
We learned that gossip destroys community and distorts truth.
We confronted that “venting” and “sharing” can often be spiritualized sin.
We practiced a 7 day gossip fast.
Big Idea: A tongue surrendered to God is one of the most powerful tools for His mission. Your words can point people to Jesus and shape eternity.

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Reflect: Of the three themes (Testimony, Prayer, Praise), which one comes most naturally to you — and which one challenges you most? Why?
2. Personal: How has your testimony — your story of God’s work — impacted someone else’s faith before? What could happen if you shared it more often?
3. Spiritual: How does prayer reshape the way you see challenges or circumstances? What does it mean to let prayer “align heaven and earth”?
4. Practical: Praise isn’t just singing — it’s speaking gratitude out loud. What daily habits could help you develop a consistent language of praise?
5. Application: This week’s challenge is to use your mouth for good. What’s one specific conversation or situation where you can testify, pray, or praise — and what will that look like?
3-DAY DEVOTIONAL: “Words That Witness”
DAY 1 – Testimony: Tell What You’ve Seen
Scripture: Psalm 107:2 – “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.”
Reflection: Your story is not small. When you tell others what God has done, you’re joining heaven’s narrative of redemption. Testimony reminds you of God’s faithfulness and reminds others that He’s still working. You don’t have to know every answer — you just need to know your story.
Action Step: Write down one short paragraph of your testimony — “My life before Christ, how I met Him, and what’s changed since.” Pray for one person to share it with this week.
DAY 2 – Prayer: Align Heaven and Earth
Scripture: Matthew 6:10 – “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Reflection: Prayer is not about convincing God to do your will; it’s about transforming your will to match His. Spoken prayer invites heaven’s order into earthly situations. It changes your perspective before it changes your problems.
Action Step: Spend 10 minutes praying aloud today. Include these three parts:
- Thanksgiving – what you’re grateful for.
- Petition – what you’re asking God to do.
- Surrender – aligning your will to His (“Your will be done”).
DAY 3 – Praise: Declare His Goodness
Scripture: Psalm 34:1 – “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
Reflection: Praise is verbal faith. When you choose to praise God — even before the breakthrough — you are declaring that He is good regardless of circumstances. Praise invites His presence, builds your faith, and silences negativity.
Action Step: Take 5 minutes today to speak or sing your praise to God. Name three things He’s done that you’re thankful for. Start your next prayer time with gratitude before requests.
