GO - Week 6

Desperate
Luke 8:43–48

“Have you ever been that desperate?”

I. The Woman’s Condition (Luke 8:43)

1. Physical Suffering (12 years of bleeding)
   - Unlike a temporary sickness, this became part of her identity — she was “the woman with the issue of blood.”
2. Medical Failure (spent all her money) - Mark 5:26
   - She was financially bankrupt and physically worsened by human attempts to fix her condition.
3. Religious Isolation - Leviticus 15:25–27
4. Personal Desperation

II. The Risk of Faith (Luke 8:44–45)

Numbers 15:37–41
Malachi 4:2 - kanaph

III. The Miracle of Healing (Luke 8:44, 46)

IV. The Confession of Faith (Luke 8:47)

Romans 10:9–10

V. The Savior’s Response (Luke 8:48)

Affirmation: “Daughter…” — restores her identity and dignity.
Commendation: “Your faith has made you well.”
Blessing: “Go in peace.” — not just physical healing, but wholeness (shalom).

Small Group Questions

Desperation and Need: Have you ever faced a situation where you were so desperate you didn’t care about appearances, cost, or what others thought? How did that experience shape your understanding of dependence on God?

Identity and Struggles: The woman was known as “the one with the issue of blood.” What labels or struggles have you carried that have felt like part of your identity? How does Jesus see beyond those labels?

Faith and Risk: This woman risked exposure, rejection, and ridicule to reach out to Jesus. What risks might faith call you to take today? What holds you back from taking them?

Healing and Transformation: When Jesus heals the woman, He not only stops her bleeding but restores her identity, dignity, and peace. What areas of your life need that kind of wholeness from Jesus?

Living Testimony: The woman’s healing couldn’t stay hidden—she confessed publicly. How can you share your story of Jesus’ work in your life in a way that encourages others?

3-Day Devotional

Day 1 – Desperation that Drives Us (Luke 8:43)

Read: Luke 8:43, Psalm 34:18

Reflect: The woman’s long-term suffering left her physically weak, socially isolated, and spiritually cut off. Desperation often feels like the end, but it can be the very thing that pushes us toward Jesus. What area of your life leaves you feeling drained or hopeless?

Pray: Ask God to help you see your desperation not as defeat, but as an open door to His presence and power.

Day 2 – The Risk of Faith (Luke 8:44–45)

Read: Luke 8:44–45, Hebrews 11:6

Reflect: The woman’s touch was both risky and bold. She believed that Jesus could do what no one else could. Faith often asks us to step past fear, shame, or human obstacles. Where is Jesus calling you to take a step of faith that feels risky?

Pray: Pray for courage to reach out in faith, trusting Jesus more than your fears.

Day 3 – Wholeness in Christ (Luke 8:46–48)

Read: Luke 8:46–48, Romans 10:9–10

Reflect: Jesus not only healed the woman but also called her “Daughter” and sent her away in peace. His response restored her dignity and identity. Jesus doesn’t just fix problems—He makes us whole. What would it look like for you to walk in His peace today?

Pray: Thank Jesus for His healing and restoring power. Ask Him to renew your sense of identity as His child.
