Change Your Clothes
Living the resurrected life by dressing for where you're going
Colossians 3:1–17
What you wear should match where you’re going.
I. Seek and Set Your Eyes on the Resurrected Life (Colossians 3:1–4)
- Have you been saved by Jesus?
- A resurrected life requires a resurrection focus.
II. Change Your Clothes: Dress for Where You’re Going (Colossians 3:5–14)
OLD SELF vs. NEW SELF (Colossians 3:5–14)
- The Old Self is self-centered, destructive in speech, and relationship-wrecking.
- The New Self is Christ-centered, Spirit-shaped, and relationship-repairing.
III. Christ Is All: Identity Changes Everything (Colossians 3:11)
IV. Let Peace Rule, Let the Word Dwell, Let Christ Shape Everything (Colossians 3:15–17)
Small Group Discussion Questions
Text: Colossians 3:1–17 | Title: Change Your Clothes
1. What Are You Wearing Spiritually?
- Paul says, "put to death" and "put on"—how have you seen areas of the old self still lingering in your life? What “clothing” has Christ already helped you shed?
2. Identity Check: In v.11 Paul says, “Christ is all, and in all.”
- How has your identity in Christ challenged the way you’ve viewed yourself or others? What old labels are hardest for you to let go of?
3. What Does a Resurrected Mindset Look Like?
- Practically, what does it mean for you to “set your minds on things above” in your current season of life? How can your group help each other live with a resurrection focus?
4. From Inner Peace to Community Peace: In v.15 Paul says, “Let the peace of Christ rule…”
- What would it look like for peace to “referee” your relationships right now? Where are you tempted to control or retaliate rather than let Christ’s peace rule?
5. Wearing Christ in the Everyday:
- Paul ends by saying, “Whatever you do… do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
- What does this look like in your work, school, home, or social life this week? Share one area where you want Jesus to shape your actions more fully.
3-Day Follow-Up Devotional
Colossians 3:1–17
Day 1: Mindset Shift
Read: Colossians 3:1–4
Reflection: Paul begins with a massive “if”—“If then you have been raised with Christ…” He’s reminding us that our focus follows our faith. Where your eyes go, your life follows.
Question: Where is your mind naturally set? On worry? Approval? Comfort? How can you shift it toward Christ today?
Prayer Prompt: “Jesus, help me seek the things above. Teach me to think like someone who’s been raised with You.”
Day 2: Wardrobe Change
Read: Colossians 3:5–14
Reflection: Paul gives two commands: “put off” the old self and “put on” the new. The old self is reactive, self-centered, and divisive. The new self is rooted in Christ and marked by love and unity.
Question: What’s one “old self” attitude or habit you’re being called to put off today? What “new self” virtue could you intentionally practice in its place?
Prayer Prompt: “Lord, strip away what doesn’t belong and clothe me in Your character today—compassion, patience, love.”
Day 3: Christ at the Center
Read: Colossians 3:15–17
Reflection: Paul shows us what a Christ-centered life and community look like: peace that rules, the Word that dwells, and a purpose shaped by Jesus in everything.
Question: Where do you need to let peace rule? Where does God’s Word need to dwell more deeply in your life?
Prayer Prompt: “Jesus, You are my life. May everything I do today reflect Your name and bring You glory.”
