Work It - Week 2
Living Like Joseph in a World That’s Watching
Genesis 39–41
Your job’s not just a paycheck—it’s your chance to live out your faith, make a difference, and show the world who God is.
Genesis 39:2–3 – “The Lord was with Joseph… and his master saw that the Lord was with him…”
1. Live With Conviction
Genesis 39:9 – “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”
Is my life screaming, “I’m with God,” even when no one’s looking?
2. Work With Excellence
Genesis 39:22–23 – “So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison… because the Lord was with him.”
Is your work good enough to make people curious about your faith?
3. Build Real Relationships
Genesis 40:6–7 – “When Joseph came to [the prisoners]… he saw they were dejected… and asked, ‘Why do you look so sad today?’”
Real care opens doors.
4. Stand Firm When It Matters
Genesis 39:12 – “But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.”
Are you ready to stand your ground when the pressure’s on?
5. Point People to God in Crisis
Genesis 41:16 – “I cannot do it… but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”
Can you be the voice that points to Jesus when life gets crazy?
“There is no end to discipleship.” – Tom Preston
Game Plan for This Week:
-Hit the ground praying: “God, help me represent You well today.”
-Check in with a coworker—ask how they’re doing, pray for them.
-Show up with integrity, humility, and love. Be the person people respect.
Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light shine before others, so they see your good deeds and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
Even in Egypt. Even in your office. Even at your desk. Be a disciple maker.

3-Day Devotional: Discipling While You Work
Day 1: Planted with Purpose
Scripture: Genesis 39:2-4, “The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.”
Devotional Thought: Joseph didn’t choose to work in Potiphar’s house. It wasn’t his dream job or even a fair assignment—it was slavery. But he didn’t let circumstances define his faithfulness. He showed up, did excellent work, and God used it for something greater. Sometimes, where we are isn’t where we wanted to be—but God still uses it for His glory.
Challenge: Ask God to show you one way you can be faithful today—even if your work situation isn’t ideal. See it as a mission field.
Prayer: Lord, help me trust that You are with me wherever I am. Teach me to be faithful, even in places that feel frustrating or small. Use my work today to glorify You. Amen.
Day 2: Faithful in the Small Things
Scripture: Luke 16:10, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much…”
Devotional Thought: Joseph’s influence didn’t come from a big stage—it came from everyday obedience. He served with excellence behind the scenes long before he ever stepped into a palace. The same is true for us: when we’re faithful with what’s in our hands today, God prepares us for what’s ahead.
Challenge: What’s one small, behind-the-scenes way you can serve someone at work or in your neighborhood today?
Prayer: God, grow in me a heart that sees faithfulness as success. Help me not to overlook small moments to reflect Your love. Teach me to value consistency more than recognition. Amen.
Day 3: Your Work is Your Witness
Scripture: Colossians 3:23-24, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
Devotional Thought: People watch how you work. They notice your attitude, your effort, and your kindness. Joseph’s witness wasn’t just in his dreams—it was in his diligence. When we work with integrity and joy, people see Christ in us. You may never preach a sermon, but how you work might be the loudest sermon someone hears.
Challenge: Pick one task today—no matter how small—and do it with intentionality, joy, and excellence as an offering to God.
Prayer: Father, thank You for giving my work purpose. Help me reflect Jesus through my attitude and actions today. Let others see something different in me—not for my glory, but Yours. Amen.
