Death of Death - Week 1
Death of Death
Week One “Death's door”
Today, we’re going to examine the origins of death, why it exists, and how God's creation story in Genesis reveals His design for life before death entered the world.
Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
The Central Character: God
A created measurement: “In the beginning”
A created space: “God created the heavens and the earth”
A created material: Earth
Why does this foundational truth matter to us today? Because in just ten words, God answers the deepest questions every human asks
1) The big 4 questions of life are answered in the first 10 words of the bible.
A) Who am I? (Identity)
B) Where did I come from? (History)
C) What am I here for? (Purpose)
D) Where will I go when I die? (Eternity)
2) The character and power of God.
God preexists creation and is Coeternal.
God created time, space, and matter for His purpose, but He is not bound by it.
Within this creation we are created.
Genesis 2:15-17
“15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Three-Day Devotional: "Before and After Death’s Door"
Day 1: The Beginning Before Death
📖 Read: Genesis 1:1-5 & Genesis 2:15-17
🔍 Reflection:
Before death entered the world, God created everything with order, purpose, and goodness. He established boundaries—not to restrict us, but to protect and sustain us. Adam was given freedom, yet with that freedom came responsibility. Today, reflect on the boundaries God has placed in your life. Do you see them as restrictions or as protection?
🙏 Prayer:
"Lord, help me trust that Your boundaries are for my good. Open my heart to understand Your design for my life and give me the wisdom to walk in it."
Day 2: Death's Entrance
📖 Read: Genesis 3:1-7 & Romans 5:12
🔍 Reflection:
When Adam and Eve chose to step outside of God’s design, death entered the world. Their decision affected all of humanity, bringing sin and separation from God. But even in judgment, God had a plan for redemption. Where in your life do you struggle with the same temptation—to reject God’s way for your own?
🙏 Prayer:
"Father, I acknowledge that sin leads to death and separation from You. Forgive me for the times I have chosen my way over Yours. Help me trust in Your wisdom and grace."
Day 3: Death Defeated
📖 Read: 1 Corinthians 15:20-26 & John 11:25-26
🔍 Reflection:
Through Jesus, death was not only defeated but transformed into the doorway to eternal life. What Adam lost in the garden, Jesus reclaimed on the cross. Because of His resurrection, we no longer have to fear death. How does this truth shape your perspective on life and eternity?
🙏 Prayer:
"Jesus, thank You for conquering death and offering me life. Give me boldness to live with confidence in Your victory and to share this hope with others."
