17 Jun Daily Devotion – June 17
Day 168 – June 17
“Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.”
Lazy isn’t something that any of us want to be called! It’s not a very kind description and is certainly not what we want to be known for in our work ethic or personal lives. However, when it comes to our energetic passion to pursue the Lord, most of us find ourselves in seasons of “slothfulness in zeal” or laziness in enthusiasm because we tend to associate enthusiasm with feeling. When Clemson was playing in the college football playoffs and ultimately winning the national championship, no Clemson fan had to be told not to be “slothful in their zeal” for the Tigers. When a championship team is rolling the fan base is fired up, as they should be! But if things changed in a few years and Clemson’s dominance turned to mediocre play, the zeal of the fan base would dwindle rapidly because everyone wants to be on the winning side. When things are going well in our lives, it’s easy to serve the Lord with enthusiasm and excitement, but it’s in the times we don’t feel emotionally charged that we must remain steadfast to purpose in the Lord Jesus. You are the righteousness of God even on your worst day and you are a victor because of Christ’s victory on the cross. If we only seek first the Kingdom and His righteousness when things are going well, we will not change the culture. The culture will change us. Don’t lose heart friends. Be fervent in spirit and serve the Lord with all your heart today no matter your circumstances.
We’re more than conquerors in Christ.
