16 Jun Daily Devotion – June 16
Day 167 – June 16
“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” Romans 12:10
Honor in the original language means “weight, worth or value.” At 4 Points we sing the song “Worth” and the lyrics say:
“You thought I was worth saving
So, You came and changed my life
You thought I was worth keeping
So, You cleaned me up inside
You thought I was to die for
So, You sacrificed your life
So, I could be free
So, I could be whole
So, I could tell everyone I know”
This is an incredible picture of what honor is all about and what we are to do in “outdoing one another in showing honor.” The worth we find in people is the amount of honor we will be willing to show them. If we look down on people or see them as less worthy for any reason, we only show honor to the ones that offer us something in return. The “good ole boy system” isn’t going to change the current culture with the Kingdom culture Jesus came to establish. In fact, it’s a big reason we find ourselves in the shape we find ourselves in today. When we can look at our neighbors who are different than us, love them like Christ loves us, and show them how much they matter to God by outdoing them with honor, the world will take notice and lives will change through the power of the Holy Spirit. Today, look at the people you live, work, and play with and remember what the Lord thinks about them. Let’s outdo with honor today!
We’re more than conquerors in Christ.
