Day 162 – June 11
Which part is important?
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
Verses like James 4:10 and honestly all of James 4 can be so confusing. So, I am not to be proud, but God will exalt me? And a proud person wants to be exalted, but the humble person doesn’t care, so what gives? Exactly! One of the most misunderstood and misused scriptures in the Bible is Psalm 37:4, which says, “Delight yourself in the LORD, & (THEN) He will give you the desires of your heart.” We miss the delight yourself in the Lord part and fail to understand that once we submit our will to His will exalting us becomes about exalting Himself because we are on mission to make His name known. Giving us the desires of our hearts is good for His purposes because our hearts are aligned with His heart. Submission isn’t “God, I’ll do this so you give me some stuff;” submission is the exchanging of my way for His no matter what. Then He’s going to do what He said He would do and it’s probably not going to look like what we thought. So, why do you want to do it? Do you want to humble yourself to get God’s stuff, or because He’s the lover of our soul, the one who sent Jesus to die for us, who left His Spirit to walk with us and help us and who never leaves us…? God loves you, He’s for you, and He’s ready to exalt you when your heart can take it. Don’t ask for exaltation, ask for revelation of your own heart and mind. When you’re healthy He will not cease to pour out His goodness on you. But He has to be the point!
We’re more than conquerors in Christ.
