Day 219 – August 8
What’s Love Got to Do with It?
“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?”
1 John 3:16-17
Sometimes the battle for love isn’t hate but is simply indifference in our hearts. The enemy of love isn’t hate. Hate is the opposite of love. The enemy of love is apathy! When we close our hearts to people and become apathetic to them, we decide to play God and decide in our hearts who is worthy of being loved by God. This is especially difficult for people we are close to who have wronged us. It’s almost like we feel we have done a great service when we don’t hate people, right? But the reality is that we choose not to love and to live a life numb to the people around us because of our apathy towards them. In this life, we will face frustrations and deal with people who make us want to scream, but God chose us to be the light in their lives and to show them the love they don’t deserve. How can we be more like Christ than that? God looked down on us who were filthy and full of sin and chose not to be apathetic to our needs. He chose to give His son to pay the price for our sin, offering us forgiveness and transformation in the process. We are the change the people our lives are looking for; we must not allow the past to dictate how we love and close our hearts to what the Lord would have us do. Today, may we open our hearts and love like Jesus in all we do!
We’re more than conquerors in Christ.
